What is conservatism? Conservatism to me is following the constitution to the letter. It means limited government, a deliberate democracy, and states rights. We all know that in the last 77 years that hasn't been the case. It doesn't matter who is in office, democrat or republican, they all want to increase the size of government and make us more dependent on them. Look at the healthcare reform bill in the senate right now. They are going to force people into buying insurance. Last time I checked the constitution prohibits the government into forcing people in to buying goods or services. What kind of country have we become when members of congress don't even know what's in the constitution. They should test anyone trying to run for office on the constitution.
Our own president has said that the constitution is flawed. That tells me that he doesn't know the history behind the constitution. President Obama wants wealth redistribution but can't do it without finding someway to circumvent the constitution. Government taking from someone and giving it to another is highly unconstitutional. I don't know why the people aren't up in arms about this, but this also tells me that the american people arren't schooled in history as well as those in the past. May god help us all.
